How to setup Donchian Channel Indicators
09.08.2011
The CitiFX Pro platform allows you to utilise a range of different indicator studies that can be overlaid on top of the graph module. In order to select a study go to:
Trading > Charts >![]()
In this post we will be looking at how to apply Donchian Channel indicators to charts. The Donchian Channel is a volatile indicator that shows price ranges using the instruments high and low prices. The indicator looks very similar to Bollinger Bands, with high, low and median lines displayed on a chart. The width of the channel indicates volatility within a market – tight channels indicate steady markets where as loose bands show increasing volatility.
The Donchian Channel defines the upper and lower limits of the normal trading range, and in general, an instruments price will tend to move within the bands. With this in mind, if a currency pair moves towards the upper band, the indicator would suggest that the price would pull back towards the moving average. Similarly, if the price drops to the lower band, there is increased probability that it will head back up.
If you wish to apply the DC indicator to a chart then go to:
Trading > Charts >
> Trends > Donchian Channel
A menu will now be displayed (see below) allowing you to fully customise the indicator to match your personal preferences. You can adjust the average period, whether you want the indicator displayed as an overlay or as a separate window, you can even change the colour and thickness of the lines.

Once you are happy with the settings click “OK”.

As you can see from the screenshot above, the DC indicator has been applied as an overlay on top of the EURUSD candlestick chart. If you wish to edit the indicator once it’s been applied, then click on the DC logo on the top left (see below). From here, you can adjust the properties or even delete the indicator altogether.

Unlike other trading platforms on the market, the CitiFX Pro also allows traders to customise the chart itself. You can edit anything from the timeframe right down to colour of the font used on the chart!
