TRIX Indicator (TRIX)
08.01.2012
TRIX is a momentum oscillator that is used to display the rate of change of a triple exponentially smoothed moving average. The beauty of the TRIX indicator is that it’s designed to filter out any insignificant price movements which can often lull in-experienced FX traders into making poor decisions.
The TRIX indicator can be used in a variety of ways. One of the most popular methods is to apply a signal line to generate buy and sell signals. The trading rule is very similar to MACD, Stochastic and more traditional indicators. Buy if the signal line crosses the TRIX line from below and Sell when the signal line crosses the TRIX line from above.

You can also use the zero-line, as a way to gauge trend direction. This approach is similar to RSI signals. Buy when the TRIX crosses the zero-line from below and sell when the TRIX crosses the zero-line from above.

Applying the TRIX indicator is quick and easy. Simply go to:
Trading > Charts >
> Oscillators > TRIX Indicator
As you can see from the screenshot above, the indicator is fully customisable. Once you’re happy with the indicator settings, click ‘OK’. If you wish to apply a separate signal line go to:
> Oscillators > TRIX Indicator
Decrease the time period, and select ‘Add to: TRIX’. You may also wish to change the colour of the line. This will then overlay the signal line on top of the TRIX indicator pane.
You may also wish to highlight the zero-line. To do this select:
> Lines > Horizontal Line
You can then select the zero-point and apply the line.
